About Yvonne Chau

Yvonne is a native of Vietnam, and is the youngest of eight children. She immigrated to California in 1993 with her parents.  Some of her older brothers had already made the move to the United States, and the family wanted to remain together.  Yvonne’s oldest brother mentored his younger siblings, and instilled in Yvonne and her brothers the importance of setting high goals and achieving them. One by one, each of her brothers achieved their high goals and became fulfilled by doing so.

Wanting to please her family and being held to high goal-setting, upon graduating from high school in 1995, Yvonne enrolled in college.  After a year, she knew that sitting behind a desk for at least three more years did not appeal to her creative mind.  From a young age, her true passion was art-related. Yvonne was enamored with style and fashion. Her father can remember Yvonne giving her baby dolls “hair cuts” as well as cutting up their outfits to suit her as young as the age of five.  It seemed that she constantly had a pair of scissors in her hands.  In 1996, she met and married Jimmy. They decided to make a move to Southern California and begin a new start as husband and wife.  They had their first child, a son.  A nagging feeling that she had disappointed her family by not completing her education, along with her burning desire to be an active part of the style and fashion industry prompted her to follow her dreams.  She enrolled at Fulton Cosmetology School in Orange Count in 1997.  She completed the program in a year and a half and feels fortunate that was able to study under several master stylists while in California.

In 2000, she and Jimmy were blessed with their daughter.  The family moved to Virginia Beach, and Yvonne continued working as a stylist at a local salon. Yvonne dreamed of owning her own salon, and in 2002, her dream came true. Cali Hair was opened, and it remains a favorite salon for many locals.  The six stylists create a warm, friendly atmosphere.

Yvonne was taught to always have a goal, and while she was very satisfied with Cali Hair, she dreamed of a salon that offered not only a wide variety of upscale hair and beauty services, but also modern stress-relieving spa services.  Her friend, Trinity, had always dreamed of opening her own spa, and the friends decided to join their talents and combine their passions. They opened Salon @31st in 2008. Their venture has proved to be a win-win for each.  Salon @31st offers a staff of 14 professionals who offer services ranging from assisting clients in creating an individualized look to providing the most relaxing spa services available at the oceanfront.

In her spare time, Yvonne enjoys cooking, floral arranging, interior decorating/design, and fashion. At Salon @31st, you will find Yvonne’s unique decorating flair and personal touches throughout.  From the hand-selected pictures in the massage rooms to the stylish colors found throughout the salon, Yvonne has worked hard to create a modern yet relaxing environment where the client’s needs and wishes are the priority.

She remains motivated to stay updated and educated in the salon arena by world famous Kim Vo, also of Vietnam.  She gets the most satisfaction when her clients are thrilled with a new look and leave the salon smiling with a positive self image.

Yvonne is proud of working her way “from the bottom up”, and believes that anybody is capable of achieving their dreams if their heart is the driving factor.

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you do, you have to have passion for it.  I love every single moment of what I do.”  ---Yvonne
